David Bell is a business historian who joined the Centre for British Studies as a lecturer and researcher in British history and society in October 2025. He completed his bachelor's degree in History at Royal Holloway, University of London, graduating summa cum laude, and earned his master's degree in Global History with distinction through the joint program of Freie Universität Berlin and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. He is currently pursuing a doctorate under the supervision of Professor Miles Taylor at the Centre, with a proposed dissertation titled German Commodity Trading Firms in Colonial Bengal, 1860–1918. His research interests include family firms and the intersection of business and kinship networks, the economic and cultural relationship between Britain and Germany in the long nineteenth century, and collaborative business practices.
